The vineyards that produce the wine of this minuscule DOC cover the hills surrounding Capriano del Colle. There are no vast expanses of vines, for the vineyards amount to less than 25 hectares. But the production is significant, since it reflects the will, manifested by many other Italian vinicultural areas as well, to defend and promote the value, clearly more cultural than commercial, of a local enological treasure.
Capriano del Colle, a bubbly and lively red wine, is obtained from a mixture of Sangiovese and Marzemino, along with a small percentage of Barbera. In addition, there is a white wine made from Trebbiano grapes that, vintage after vintage, steadily acquires a larger following.
The vitivinicultural tradition of the zone, whose economy has taken off primarily because of the considerable industrial expansion of Brescia, is still a living reality for the inhabitants. And it finds its maximum expression in the celebration of the Festival of the Grape that is held every September at Capriano del Colle.
